Kerala Governor seeks explanation from state government over violation of Rules of Business

Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has sought explanation on the government’s action of approaching the Supreme Court, challenging the Citizenship Amendment law. The governor asked Chief Secretary Tom Jose for an explanation.

The Governor is stern that the Pinarayi Vijayan’s government has violated the Rules of Business after he was not informed about the move.

The state government approached the apex court challenging CAA, already signed by the President after the passage of the bill in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Pinarayi’s government approached the apex court for political gains by misusing money from the public treasury.

Governor argued that without asking him, the state government approached the SC, thereby violating Rules of Business 34 (2).

On the other hand, the government says that it had approached the Supreme Court under Article 131 of the Constitution.

The state government will soon give explanation to the Governor after consultation with legal experts. However, the reply of the government would be there has been no violation of the Rules of Business or the Constitution and that it has the right to approach the Court under Article 131.
