“Make in India” Pays Rich Dividends: 111 Projects Worth Rs. 1.78 lakh Crores

New Delhi: As part of the Make in India initiative, the central government sanctioned 111 defense projects totaling 1.78 lakh crore rupees during the three years from 2015 to 2018. Befitting a defense superpower, India now stands on the edge of self-sufficiency in arms and armament production.

The Union Minister of State for Defence, Subhas Bhamre said today that the production of indigenously-developed Tejas fighter is progressing as scheduled at the facilities of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. “Ten out the sixteen Tejas fighters requested by the Air Force have already been delivered”, he said. The minister added that the remaining six fighters should be ready by March.

The successful September launch of Milan 2 T, a Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM), built under the “Make in India” initiative, has given a huge fillip to the program.
