PM Modi remembers Sushma Swaraj on her birth anniversary

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday recalled late former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on her birth anniversary. He said that Sushma Swaraj had great dreams for our nation.

PM Modi tweeted, ” Remembering Sushma Ji. She epitomised dignity, decency and unwavering commitment to public service. Firmly rooted in Indian values and ethos, she had great dreams for our nation. She was an exceptional colleague and an outstanding Minister.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted, “Tributes to an exceptional leader Sushma Swaraj ji on her jayanti. A disciplined karyakarta, a fierce orator and an outstanding parliamentarian who never compromised on her ideals. She will always be remembered for her kind nature & helping the distressed in their trying times.”

One of the stalwarts of Bharatiya Janata Party, Sushma Swaraj served as the Minister of External Affairs of India in the first Narendra Modi government (2014–2019). She was elected seven times as a Member of Parliament and three times as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. At the age of 25 in 1977, she became the youngest cabinet minister of Indian state of Haryana. She also served as 5th Chief Minister of Delhi for a short duration in 1998.

Swaraj breathed her last on 6 August 2019 due to cardiac arrest. Government of India posthumously conferred Padma Vibhushan in 2020 in the field of Public Affairs.
